Winter Disco

On Wednesday the 18th of June 2014 Howick Intermediates School Councillors held a "Frozen themed" disco in the school hall.

The event started at 6:30pm and ended at 9:30pm. Everyone was dressed nicely and was having loads of fun. There were special prizes to be won. For example; King and Queen, Best  Dancers, Best Dressed, etc. There were people dancing, laughing, walking and plenty of chatter buzzing around.

The top played songs of the night was "Wiggle" by Jason Derulo, "All Of Me" by John Legend and "Loyal" by Chris Brown.
To end the night, Mr Daldy announced the winners. First up, the King and Queen were revealed. Our King for the night was Pelikani Taukeiaho from Room 18 and our Queen for the night was Kendra Paeah from Room 15. Next Mr Daldy announced the best dancer which was Hannah Williams from Room 18 and lastly the Best Dressed was Aliyah Rounds from Room 18.

The tuck shop was open for the students to buy snacks and drinks. There was a lot of rubbish lying around at the end, so altogether we picked up 5 pieces each. Overall it was a great night.

KCIsander Girl's fun cooking time!

During specialist time at Food technology KCIslander girls have been working very well with Mrs Watson.
We have been making delicious foods for the Islander, Asian, and Maori students in Howick Intermediate school. We have found out that our school has 56% of Asian students , 42% of Maori students and 78% of Islander students.
First, we made delicious sushi to celebrate the Asian culture and shared it with our class.
Second, we made fruit kebabs to celebrate the Island culture.
We shared it with our class too.
Along the way we found a Rewena bread recipes on the internet.
We also made two other Rewena breads to share with the Kappa Hakka group and the ERO team. The ERO team loved our food when they came to our school.
After we had our morning tea on week 1 Tuesday, we went back to Mrs Watson to do our evaluation.

Focus : to equip students with life skills and prepare them for success in later life.

Room 18 students identified a variety of reasons why people choose to immigrate to NZ.

Purpose of visit : to discuss his experiences and knowledge of Immigration     and assist students to understand the reasons why people immigrate to NZ.

Mr Sim discussed questions relating to immigration that students had posed to him.

Students understood the thought processes people go through in reaching what can be a life-changing decision. They were made to understand that such decisions are not made lightly and that day to day decisions have long reaching impacts on their lives.

Zoe Nelson, class councillor, thanking Mr Sim with a token of appreciation.
